Emil Frey Racing aiming for two ADAC GT Masters titles at Hockenheim season finale

  • #63 of Costa Balboa and Aitken still in the mix for the Drivers’ crown
  • Swiss outfit head into final round tied for the Teams’ points lead
  • #19 and #14 both targeting positive end to the season

Safenwil (Switzerland), October 18th 2022

Emil Frey Racing will fight for the Drivers’ and Teams’ championship titles this weekend as it wraps up its maiden season of ADAC GT Masters at Hockenheim.

The Swiss team entered the ultra-competitive GT3 sprint category at the start of the year and have enjoyed success across all three of its Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos.

The #63 duo of Jack Aitken and Albert Costa Balboa have taken three podiums this season: one victory at Zandvoort and a pair of second place finishes at the Lausitzring, while the #14 crew of Mick Wishofer and Konsta Lappalainen also won at Zandvoort. Arthur Rougier and Franck Perera kicked off the GT Masters era for EFR with a superb pole position at Oschersleben before recording a further two podiums.

Coming into the weekend, Aitken and Costa Balboa face an uphill challenge to win the Drivers’ title but remain mathematically in the hunt. They are currently fourth in the standings, 54 points adrift of the leader, with 56 points available across both qualifying sessions and races. Key to the #63’s hopes will be qualifying where three points are awarded for pole position, two for second and one for third. Race wins alone will not be enough to secure the title.

Meanwhile in the Teams’ standings, Emil Frey Racing arrives at Hockenheim as the joint leader on 181 points. The team will be hoping they can repeat the performance seen in the corresponding Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe round at the same venue. All three cars showed strong one-lap pace on the 4.574km circuit and gathered valuable data during the rain-affected practice session in September.

Unlike the previous round at the Sachsenring, overtaking is possible at Hockenheim with both the #63 and #14 demonstrating as much during the GTWC endurance race last month. Key passing places are the turn two right-hander and the tight first-gear hairpin at the end of the back straight, while the heavy-braking zone at turn eight also offers a chance to overtake.

The weekend begins with the first of two free practice sessions on Friday morning 21st of October, starting at 10:15, with FP2 taking place at 14:15. Saturday morning is when the crucial qualifying session will be held at 09:00, before race one begins at 13:00. Second qualifying on Sunday morning is at 09:00 before the final race of the season kicks off at 13:00.
